An oval is a brilliant-cut stone stretched into an ellipse. It faces up larger than a round diamond of the same carat weight and makes the finger look longer and slimmer. Ovals look beautiful in hidden-halo, side-stone and three-stone settings, and in a simple solitaire that lets the outline speak.

Basket prongs hold the diamond low and secure; tulip prongs open like petals; cathedral shoulders arch up to lift the diamond; a bezel wraps it in a smooth rim of gold with no prongs to catch. Setting prices are for size 6 in the gold colour selected, excluding the centre diamond.
About oval settings
Most people prefer a length-to-width ratio between about 1.35 and 1.50. Look at the photographs for the bow-tie, the darker band across the middle that every oval shows to some degree.
