A pear combines a rounded end and a point, like a teardrop. It is traditionally worn with the point towards the fingertip and lengthens the hand. Pears suit solitaires, bezels and three-stone designs, and they pair naturally with curved wedding bands.

Basket prongs hold the diamond low and secure; tulip prongs open like petals; cathedral shoulders arch up to lift the diamond; a bezel wraps it in a smooth rim of gold with no prongs to catch. Setting prices are for size 6 in the gold colour selected, excluding the centre diamond.

Look for good symmetry between the two halves and a ratio around 1.45–1.75. The point should be protected by a V-prong.
